Know the race
The Oaks focuses on three-year-old fillies and takes place on the Friday of Derby weekend. The Derby is the following day's feature. Both days include other races: a full Friday card is not a list of Oaks runners. When choosing a race to follow, check its name as well as the date.
A runner list can show horse, jockey, trainer, program number and starting stall. The program number identifies a horse on the racecard; the post position identifies its gate. Check scratches before the start because an entered horse may be withdrawn. After racing, the official finishing order is more useful than the pre-race contender list.
The official Louisville visitor guide lists April 30, 2027, the day before the Kentucky Derby.
A filly is a young female horse. The Oaks is restricted to three-year-old fillies.
The race is run over 1⅛ miles on dirt. The Oaks race time is separate from the day's first post.
Check the Friday program listing specifically. A Saturday Derby broadcast does not tell you when the Oaks will be shown.
Check the linked race and visitor guides for the edition you plan to follow.
